Swimming Lesson Instructor

Position Purpose:

Responsible to instruct swimming lessons in the manner provided by the Aquatics Director while maintaining a safe pool environment for students and other patrons.

Education, Experience, & Skills (Minimum Requirement):

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older. Previous swimming lesson instruction experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirement(s):

  • CPR/AED and First Aid required upon hire.
  • American Red Cross certification in Water Safety Instruction preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Develops swimming skills in students and communicates any issues or problems to parents of the participants. Develops bonds with students through consistent attendance and clear expectations.
  • Responsible for the safety of participants in their class.
  • Able to control and discipline students in a positive manner consistent with the rules and safety guidelines of Family Wellness.
  • Follows and/or develops lesson plans consistent with Family Wellness lessons that are challenging and appropriate for each class level taught.
  • Provides feedback to Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator concerning all programs in which incumbent is involved.
  • Evaluates and records all students’ progress and distributes progress reports to each student at the end of each session of lessons.
  • Performs other pool set up, breakdown, and cleaning duties as required.
  • Responsible for understanding and maintaining the Aquatics Department policies and procedures.
  • Exchange resources and information with other Family Wellness employees.
  • Maintains a constant communication pipeline with the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Coordinator.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This position is classified as a Category III position under OSHA guidelines with no risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
